Benson, originally a staging area for wagons carrying supplies to mining camps, such as Tombstone, and the ore back. Later the Southern Pacific Rail Road established a terminal for passengers and freight. Amtrak still stops there today.
We stayed two nights at Butterfield RV Resort and Observatory. That’s right, they actually have their own observatory, telescope and all! They have a free nightly star show, weather permitting. The first night was too windy but the second night we got to attend with other 7 or 8 other campers. It was really fun looking through the telescope at stars and things they focused in on. The RV resort has lots of other amenities and we highly recommend staying there. You can take a virtual tour of the resort at www.rv-resort.com.
We also took a day trip to Bisbee, AZ, with a stop first at Fort Huachuka. Take a look at some of the pictures.
