Deming, New Mexico

The fairly short drive of 225 miles to  Deming New Mexico from Van Horn Texas only took 3 1/2 hours. However, the drive did provide some interesting driving experiences. First, we traveled on the Sunday of the time change, AND we crossed from Central Time Zone to Mountain Time Zone. So we gained an hour and then lost an hour all within the span of 20 miles. Confused? So were we, so we waited till we got to El Paso and had cell phone reception to see what time it was. Second, we had to go through El Paso. I-10 is squeezed between the central part of the city, the rail road yard, the Mexican border and then through a gap with University of Texas, El Paso.

Once through it is an easy drive to Deming New Mexico. We had been alerted that we needed to make a trip to Columbus NM , south of Deming, to see the town that is the site of the last foreign country’s attack on United States soil. So we allotted two nights at the Little Vineyard RV Park, which we do not recommend.

We made a day trip from Deming to Columbus, NM. The State Park there is totally nice with hookups, quite large grounds, sites spread out, very nice. It would be nice place to stay if you want quiet, solitude off the beaten path for a few days.We also checked out the Rock Hound State Park on the way back to Deming. Check out the pictures for the full story of Columbus.
